Rheman's Rig Jules Plane Padre Island Beach zaggie dune soaring
LSXC Update #3 (June 23)

Conditions were light winds, SE, with more a more easterly direction. Beautiful clouds formed but were scattered. Bubba Goodman decided to try a 35-mile out and return since the winds were so light. He landed about a mile short of the airport. He said it was very easy flying, with a major road always in site at all times. We have been able to secure a couple of drivers, with both being available on the weekends, and one available any day of the week. They are two teenagers (Ryan and TC), who have proven themselves to be very responsible and did a great job driving for Bubba on Sun. Our local connection and hang gliding buddy, Tom Rheman, was truck towed with his winch (photo above). His first tow produced about a 550' tow and he landed next to the rig after a few short minutes. His second tow (at 4:15 pm) produced about a 750' tow and he reached cloudbase (7500') with the second thermal. Tom flew at cloudbase, just over the airport, for an hour. It was his personal best.

We got to meet Jules Kirkpatrick, an Oregon HG pilot that was here at the Edinburg airport purchasing an award-winning Howard plane (photo above). We got to watch Jules do his check ride with the orginal owner, then we got to see him take off heading NW, back to Oregon.

The next of day brought some overdevelopment, so we decided to take Bubba to South Padre Island. The water was beautiful and the guys had fun dune soaring with the Burnzie's zaggies (photos above).
