News and Announcements:

AAS organized and sponsored the Lone Star Cross Country (LSXC), which made its debut in Edinburg, Texas during the summer of 2002. This expedition provided "personal bests" for many pilots (some even logged three and four PBs during their flying adventure) and a world record -declared goal 273km- was set by Bruce Goldsmith, a European paraglider pilot, helping to prove that this particular site has excellent potential. We will be returning to Edinburg again June 1-July 31, 2003. Check out the details and registration for this year's expedition. We're excited about the possibilities that this area offers. You can read about last summer's adventures at www.austinairsports.com/LSXCupdates

The "Texas Open" is happening again this summer in Leakey, Texas! Organizers Sam Kellner and Dan Bereczki have scheduled the event for July 18-20, 2003. They are planning a "fun fly-in/competition" type format, which will include duration, spot landing, bomb drop, etc. Quest Air will be there again providing the towing as well as more discovery flights for the locals (Bo and Russ were big hits with the locals last year). You can find out more about the event at http://danbarb.org/txopen.

The "Five Class Nationals", organized by David Glover and sponsored by Flytec USA will be held in Big Spring, Texas July 27-Aug. 2, 2003. For more information visit www.flytec.com/dev.html

Lots of cool things going on in Texas again this summer!!! Make plans to visit this great state for a flying adventure, whether it's going for the distance down south, having fun flying over the beautiful hill country, or racing to goal in Big Spring...it's all good and we're all friendly!
